Spring is sprung the grass is riz

Well the snow went on and on and on. And then it melted and we had rain. And eventually, much later, there was this bright thing in the sky and it was spring !

Rosie had her glucose test and all looked normal - so no answers there. We started getting her turned out again with the others for short periods of time... only to have her go footsore again so she is now confined to a small paddock with very limited grazing. The others go in with her at night so they have access to the shelters. Because of the lack of grass, we are feeding hay. Luckily we have plenty from last year but it does mean we need to cut hay this year rather than getting by on last year's.

It seems that the snow and ice resulted in more cases of laminitis than usual, so we were not the only ones affected. Duds and Rosie have also had touches of seedy toe.

Rosie is now gradually going back into work. I started with long reining, as its easier to see how she is going. The saga of the saddle finally came to an end and she has a shiny new saddle as well - her weight loss meant the other one was starting to be a bit wide for her. She's been ridden for a short while this and last weekend.

This weekend we also took her out for a brief wander. It was interesting to see how her attitude changed ... she was really quite concerned about the ground and was very cautious. She is moving fine in the sand school so this could just be anticipation. But we will err on the side of caution.

Duds is his normal "diesel model" self. Fi is showing some signs of unlevelness as the ground gets drier...and harder. Last weekend that was compounded by having her annual flu jag, and a swelling resulted on one side of her chest. We took it easy ;)

All three had their teeth done at the same time.
